Module Code

MBA 7063- Strategic Human Resource Mangement (SHRM)

The assessment strategy for the module is underpinned by a single piece of summative
assessment taking the form of a portfolio that will be developed throughout the module
and submitted towards the end of the module.
The key elements of this portfolio are scenario exercises, where you will analyze and
comment upon a set of scenarios relating to complex human resource issues from social,
economic, legal, cultural, and ethical perspectives, in each case proposing and justifying an
appropriate course of action to address complex organizational issues, and a critical
analysis of a self-selected case study on the interrelationship of organizational strategy and
human resource management practice.
Description of the assessment
The assessment is divided into three exercises. Each exercise is represented by a scenario
followed by a task. For each task student will be given formative feedback in week
mentioned in the below table. At the end of 12 th week all the tasks need to be cumulated
on a word document and uploaded as a single file on turnitin.

Assessment: Portfolio Course work

Scenario 1: Hybrid Working ( Week 4)
Post-pandemic, hybrid working, increasingly has become irreversible part of organizational
life, majority of workforce would like to have flexibility options to keep up balance
between work life and home. More than 80% said their firms had adopted hybrid working
– most since the pandemic, a survey for the Chartered Institute of Management (CMI,
2022) found.
Task – You as an HR leader, propose and justify an appropriate course of HR action to
address the complexities and challenges in running a hybrid working system. Critically
evaluate emerging practices in managing the workforce diversity, digital engagement,
and productivity from the social, economic, cultural, legal and ethical perspectives. (1500
words – 30% weightage)

Scenario 2: Talent Management ( week 7)
With talent shortages, organizational shake-ups, economic and covid turmoil dominating
the news, it’s understandable why many leaders might feel apprehensive.
“It’s no longer the loudest voice in the room or the most visible person who will
automatically be thought of as talent or a potential leader. It could be the introvert who
needs time to reflect or the person who connects with people out of the limelight. It takes
effort to spot these talents, but it is great news for innovation and our society.”
(Forbes – 2022)

Task – Propose and justify management strategies and solutions for retaining Talent.
Critically evaluate and conclude with your recommendations on challenges and scope of
development of Talent Management function in the industry of your choice. (1500
words – 30% weightage)

Scenario 3: Strategic HR ( Week 10)
“Individual HR strategies may be shaped by the business strategy. For example, a business
strategy for improving customer service may translate into discrete HR strategies involving
the use of training plans or performance improvement plans. However, it’s too simplistic to
suggest that strategic HRM simply follows on from business strategy – the two must inform
one another. The way in which people are managed, motivated and deployed, and the
availability of skills and knowledge, should all shape the business strategy. Indeed, it’s now
increasingly common to find business strategies that are inextricably linked with, and
incorporated into, strategic HRM, defining the management of all resources within the
organisation.” ( CIPD, 2022)
Task – Pick an organization of your choice and explore their HR strategies. Critically
examine the interrelationship of organizational strategy and human resource
management practices deployed in the organization. (1500 words – 30% weightage)
