Contextualisation of Assessments by RTOs
Contextualisation is the process of modifying assessment tools to make learning more meaningful for
learners and their employers.
Precision RTO Resources recommends that your RTO contextualise the assessment tools to suit
particular industry requirements and specific organisational requirements before using them.
Contextualisation must retain the integrity of the assessment and the outcome of the unit of
competency.

Question 7

and its relationship to individual and team effectiveness.
Answer Prime provides technical call centre support for specialised software applications.
The organisation has recently formalised a partnership with a reputed corporate training
service provider for conducting regular training sessions for its large workforce of customer
service representatives.
John is the Head of the Learning and Development function at Answer Prime. John was not
keen on an external partnership as all learning events were managed in-house by his team
in the past. However, the organisation was growing rapidly with a corresponding increase
in the strength of the workforce. Hence, senior management had felt the need to partner
with an external agency.
John was upset with the new development. He had unpleasant interactions with his
counterpart, Matthew, from the partner organisation on several occasions. John also
assigned a significant part of his team’s time on micro-managing the training events
organised by the partner organisation. The learning and development team found this
difficult to handle along with their regular responsibilities and the overall performance of
the team suffered.
John was not aware of how his feelings and actions were affecting his team and the partner
organisation. He also felt that his own job performance had reduced in effectiveness. He
made errors in the annual learning and development plan and budget that he had to
present to senior management. He also missed deadlines for a few other critical tasks that
he was responsible for.
