The purpose of this task is to support and scaffold your critical, reflective and scholarly understanding of international issues in arts education. In the first five modules of this subject, you have explored current research and thinking in creative education, foregrounding Indigenous histories, knowledges and
cultures in arts education, psychology in the arts and arts education in a time of crisis. This task asks you to choose one of these four areas to focus on a particular aspect in depth. The task focus on your critical thinking and developing scholarship as a reflective practitioner.
The task
Explain what you see as the key issues in your nominated area(s), choose from: creative education; foregrounding Indigenous histories, knowledges and cultures in arts education; psychology, sociology and wellbeing in arts education; arts education in a time of crisis. You will name your focus(foci) of investigation within your nominated area and articulate your developing synthesis and understanding of the current debates, theory, research and/or frameworks in the arts and international arts education related to this area. There must be at least five papers/chapters minimum referenced to support your discussion. Three must come from the suggested module readings and 1-2. Reflective writing is more and related to you as the author of the narrative than general academic writing. In reflective writing, it is common to use the first person Cl’ and ‘we’) to describe your feelings and thoughts, and what affected them. At the same time, a
critical reflection should include a theoretical position and critical engagement with the bodies of literature and knowledge that contribute to, and support, your thinking that may help to guide an action plan for the future.
