Research Objectives
The background of the study is ethnography of caregivers in the UK, and it will help in understanding the life experiences of caregivers. As a
migrant care worker myself, I am interested in finding out the everyday realities and perspectives about this work from other migrant
caregivers in the UK. The ethnography will shed light into the anthropological themes of care giving, immigration, and gender. It will also
investigate the impact of Covid-19 on caregivers.
Research methodology
To address the research objectives I will carry out life-stories interviews with up to 10 caregivers. I will also carry out participant observation
in their social activities and networks outside the time of their work, to understand better their social worlds. The participants of the study will
be recruited through my existing co-workers and broader networks.
Research Ethics
This is an anthropological research that will abide with the professional Ethical Guidelines of the Association of Social Anthropologists in the
UK. I will collect data from interviews and participant observation of up to 10 of my co-workers and care givers from my own broader
networks. As this research focuses on the care workers’ experiences outside of their workspace, participation is completely voluntary and I
will make sure to explain to my potential interlocutors that their participation is entirely voluntary and that they can stop and withdrew at any
time. I will also explain to them the remits of my research and ask them for their consent in participating. During interviews and participant
observation I will be especially vigilant and sensitive and also direct them to appropriate avenues for care if sensitive topics do arise (ie
mind.co.uk). All participants will be consenting adults.
Participants
In order to gather accurate research for the study is to communicate as well as evaluate the ethnography of caring in UK. In this case the
participants are selected care givers what are working in the UK the above-mentioned criteria need to be considered for selecting the
participants. It can be noted that up to 10 selected co-workers where the investigator will conduct life-stories in order to understand the
social life of the cares after work. I will be considering 8 questions which will be asked to the participants in the form of interview in order to
do the live stories and imbibe vital information about the culture and behavior of the care givers. The participant observation will be
focused on the direct observation which is targeted on the direct observation considering a micro group of people working as care givers in
schools, hospitals and in voluntary social services. Here an interview will be conducted after the work on the participants on the lives and
experience of the care givers.
